Prospective Pilot Info

Thank you for choosing Southwest Virtual as your source for the world to Virtual Airlines. Before you can proceed to the actual application, you must read the following prospectus so you are familiar with the procedures outlined in our Virtual Airline.

GENERAL...
Southwest Virtual is an airline that does not require you to have a whole lot of experience flying the 737 series aircraft, although being familiar with 737 operations may be helpful. We have many real world pilots that fly for us, and they will help out those who need help a majority of the time.

AGE...
Southwest Virtual requires that members be at least 13 years old. Members between the ages of 13 and 18 may be asked to provide parental permission to participate.

REQUIREMENTS...
Southwest Virtual only requires three (3) flights a month to remain on the active roster. We have a variety of flights that range from twenty (20) minutes up to six (6) hours. This means you are only required to donate one (1) hour a month minimum to stay active. However more is better. We do not require you to fly online, but we do encourage it. If you have questions about flying online, please visit the FAQ's page located on this site. A link is located within the main directory.

RANKING...
Southwest Virtual has it's own unique ranking system, which is comparable to the real world. Each hub has the requirements listed in plain sight for you to view. The pilot ranking system is set forth to be fair, and also to give you the motivation to proceed higher up in rank.

FLIGHT SCHEDULE...
Southwest Virtual flies real time flights, based off flights in the real world. To do this, we use a flight schedule database, which lists all the available flights. If you look in the main directory, you will see a link labeled: Flight Schedule. Once you click on that link, you will be directed to the flight schedule database where you may choose your departure and arrival airport. It's that easy. On some flights, you will be required to make one or more stops, which are noted in the flight schedule. If you are flying a Western District flight i.e. KSEA-KIAH with one stop, you would stop at KPHX, and then continue on to your destination which would be KIAH.

AIRCRAFT...
Southwest flies the Boeing 737 series aircraft, which is the most popular aircraft ever built. Although there are many different variants to the 737, we fly the 737-2H4Adv, 737-3H4, 737-5H4, and the 737-7H4. The "H4" represents the customer number recognized by Boeing.

HOW TO START...
Once your pilot application has been received, you will be assigned a Pilot ID number (PID), along with the hub you chose at time of sign-up. Once you have been assigned a hub, you must stay with that hub for a minimum of 6 months before you can transfer to a different hub, so be sure to choose a hub you wish to stay at. We do this to keep the paper trail down to a minimum, and to ensure the quality of pilots that fly for us. Next you will pick a flight you wish to fly so you can start getting hours accumulated.

FILING A PIREP...
Once you have completed your flight, you must file a Pilot's report (PIREP). When connected to the Internet, visit the main page and you will see in the directory a link that says "File PIREP". Click on that link and it will take you to a page where you will find the hub you are assigned to. Click on the appropriate hub link and it will then take you to the actual PIREP that you will be filling out. You might want to take a look at a PIREP to see what fields will be needing to be completed. You are responsible for keeping track of your hours when you fly. Flights are logged from the time you pushback to the time you shutdown your engines at your destination. PIREP's are filled on an honor based system. Southwest Virtual has ZERO tolerance for cheating the system. Our Hub Commanders know how long it takes to fly every one of the routes and will check your hours for accuracy. If you are caught cheating the system, your employment will be terminated immediately.

USER CONDUCT...
We expect all of our members to respect everyone, their views, opinions, and comments weather it be here, or in the Flight Simulation Community in general. A complete list of user conduct is outlined and can be viewed by visiting the Terms of Use page. Links are generally located on the bottom of the web pages.

FEEDBACK...
Southwest Virtual has an open door policy, where you are free to voice your opinion at any time. We encourage our members to offer us feedback regarding the site, Management, policies, material offered, and general comments. Please be aware we may not be able to respond to each and every one of you, but we will do our best. We receive a lot of feedback every day, and it is hard to keep up with the demand from all of our members.

HAVE SOME HIGH FLYING FUN...
Although some of the rules and requirements may seem a bit overwhelming, overall we are very laid-back and a whole lot of fun to be around. We hope you will make a high flying tribute to Southwest Virtual as a new pilot/member.
